What is a professional makeover & what does it look & feel like?

A professional makeover is where you get to have your Hair & Makeup done by a qualified Makeup Artist & Hair stylist– sometimes a Stylist is qualified to do both or just one!

It means when you come into my studio you get to have your hair & make up done by a professional stylist who can highlight your best features & choose colours that will suit your skin tone.  My stylist will ask you how you normally wear your make up & based on what you say will complete your look. It is important that you feel and look like you but your best you!

I am firmly of the belief that how you look on the outside effects how you feel on the inside. As a professional photographer, it might seem that my job is only focused on the aesthetics, but for me, the main reason I do what I do is for the changes that happen within my clients when they look at themselves in the mirror after a makeover so they can step forward confidently in front of the camera and feel the amazing power of transformation.

You will walk out of the door feeling more confident and powerful and positive experience, and it’s something every woman should experience.

5 things about a glamour portrait session you want to know but were afraid to ask

1. Are glamour portraits images like those bad 80s images with big hair, shoulder pads and garish makeup?

No - quite to the contrary a glamour session these days is nothing like the bad 80s glamour images you saw in the past. Today a glamour photoshoot is more Vanity Fair style and like the covers you see in your favourite magazines. It is contemporary stylish and it has changed so much. It’s like a full magazine experience with celebrity style hair and makeup and styled clothes. It is modern, stylish and contemporary. Visit my gallery for some examples.

2. Does glamour mean I have to pose in my underwear?

No - a glamour portrait session includes whatever clothes you like to wear. If you want to be photographed in sexy lingerie then you can, but equally if you are a jeans and t-shirt type of girl/women then that is how I will photograph you. You can wear anything you like from jeans and t-shirt to a full on ball gown. It is entirely up to you. I do however encourage my clients to bring 5-6 outfits so they can show all the different facets of their personality.

3. Do I have to know how to pose or be photogenic?

Did you know that there is actually no such thing as being photogenic? A beautiful photo has everything to do with how comfortable you are in front of the camera . And it is my job. You will be fully guided in your posing so you don’t have to do a thing except for relax and enjoy yourself. During the shoot itself you will be pampered and cared for in a seriously luxurious way. Your hair and makeup will be flawless, and I will guide you into flattering poses and coach you to bring forward a range of beautiful and natural expressions, so you don’t have to know how to model - you don’t even have to be “photogenic.” I will take care of all of that, and capture you beautifully.

4. What if I don’t like any of the images?

My biggest priority is to give you an incredibly beautiful experience during your session, and then to create the most beautiful portraits you have ever seen of yourself. I want to capture the authentic you. I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if you don’t like any of your images you don’t have to buy them. It’s entirely up to you but it is my job to make you want them all.

5. What would I do with 25 images of myself?

I offer 3 portrait packages. A 6 image folio, a 10 image folio and a 25 image folio so that you can choose the right amount of images for you. My middle and largest packages come with a stunning leather folio display from Graphi studio which allows you to swop the photos out and so you always have a different photo on display. You can gift them to your family or relatives or keep them as beautiful legacy portraits for your children and grandchildren.

Do I Really Need Professional Photographs?

  • Did you know that is only takes 36 milliseconds for the brain to form a 1st impression of someone? 300 milliseconds is the equivalent of an eye blink so you can see just how fast that is.

  • Did you know that a LinkedIn profile has 7 times more chance of being viewed if it has a profile picture?

What does your current business headshot or profile picture say about you? Are you giving the best first impression and does it represent you brand?

So many small businesses avoid this question because they usually hate the way they look on camera and think that they cannot get an image that would effectively reflect them and their brand.

Do you ever wonder how many potential customers and or employers have scrolled past your image because they have judged your online look?

If you want to create a good first impression it is important to show people that you care about how you appear and that you take your brand and business/career seriously. The best way to do this is to ensure you have professional images on your LinkedIn and other social media profiles.

Photoshoot Attire - What to Wear to a Photoshoot

The clothes you bring with you to a photoshoot are what I will photograph you in. It is therefore worth putting a bit of thought and effort into your wardrobe as it can make the difference between a run of the mill photo and something spectacular.

Sparkles and sequins always look great.

Sparkles and sequins always look great.

I advise my clients to bring 5-6 outfits to get the most out of their photoshoot session and showcase different moods and styles. For example, you could start in jeans and a vest top and go right through to a cocktail/evening dress. It is entirely up to you. I understand a lot of people don’t wear jeans or don’t wear cocktail dresses so depending on the type of look you want to go for then consider the type of clothes that fit that look. For example if you want some sexy shots is that a Clavin Kline vest and pants or suspenders?

You can either go shopping, use what you got, borrow of your girlfriends or rent something  but the more effort you put in to bring in gorgeous outfits the better your shots will be. Some recommendations for clothing are: Asos, Edressit, House of Fraser, Dream Wardrobe, Girlmeetsdress, Hire the Catwalk. Having a Ball Dress Hire

With that general advice in mind here is some more specific advice in what to wear/bring:

  • Something Light: something in a soft shade of blush, grey, nude, cream or white. Light clothes look fresh and bright and ethereal and give a totally different look.

  • Something Dark: black, chocolate, charcoal, or dark, rich jewel tones will all work well. Dark clothes also tend to make you look slimmer.

  • Something Classic: put together an ensemble (or two) that’s timeless and chic. Whether you need images for business, want to keep things casual, are aiming for something a touch dressy and ladylike - or even all three.

  • Something Sexy: Sexiness can mean wearing a backless gown or beautiful lingerie. Even a sweater can feel sensual when worn off-the-shoulder; and slip-dresses nod to lingerie while still feeling dressed up.

  • Something Epic: A photo shoot is the perfect opportunity to dress like a movie star, (and a great excuse to go shopping). You might even rent, borrow, or custom make your dream outfit. Give yourself permission to go all out.

  • Striking metallics & gilded embellishments: Add some shimmer to your portraits with metallic fabrics, sequins, or beadwork. While this look may seem extremely dressy in person, the sparkling effect is much more subtle in images. Look for silver, gunmetal, bronze, gold, or rose gold, or even skip the true metals and bring any colour of draped, lustrous, satin - which is a sophisticated variation of this style.

  • Barely there: Dressing in shades of nude and blush in a portrait creates a feeling of the clothes disappearing, and the image being all about the woman, and not the wardrobe. Whether you opt for a cuddly sweater, a slinky slip, a gown, or a full tulle skirt, these subtle neutral shades will give a soft, ultra-feminine mood.

  • No Prints and patterns as they tend look to busy.

  • Fitted clothes always look better

  • Keep away from the white shirt:

  • Think about accessories: consider any hats scarves and jewellery you could bring.

  • Underwear:Don’t forget to include the underwear you need for each outfit whether its a nude bra a black bra and a strapless one.

My portrait sessions include a styling consultation to help you with your choices. You can either have the consultation in person, over Skype or I can visit you to go over your wardrobe choices. I want to make sure you have everything you need on the day to look and feel fabulous.
